Printed by the Sun: Lumen Printing Workshop

Ellie walks participants through lumen printing, a cameraless photographic process that places plant life and chemicals directly on photo paper and uses sunlight as the camera. Day 1 is spent outdoors in a park setting making prints, and day 2 moves indoors for Ellie's signature Lightroom post-processing, the step most often asked about and that transforms scanned prints into the saturated, dreamlike images.

I’m looking forward to making lumen prints with you!

Our workshop will run about four hours total, with a lunch break in the middle. We’ll cover the lumen printing process, then look at how I digitally process my prints in Lightroom.

Flowers and botanicals will be provided, but feel free to bring a few flat or translucent objects of your own, such as leaves, lace, feathers, thin fabric, mesh, paper cutouts, transparencies, or other found materials. Strong silhouettes and interesting textures work especially well.
